I am impressed by the inclusion of the pathetic and loathsome Tate brothers - who are an awful warning of what MIGHT happen when you have an absent Father and no God the Father as a stand-in. When Donald Trump started complaining about Fake News and the Luegenpresse, a friend who learned the Old Testament by heart as a child in Northern Ireland told me that the BIble is chock full of severe admonitions concerning what is translated as "Gossip" and "Backbiting". You can find the many references in both Old and New Testament easily via a search engine. The one which opens Exodus 23 is even linked to court proceedings.
Wiki says Hebrew uses different terms for true and untrue Backbiting, and a third term for Gossip which is slightly less reprehensible. Islam calls Gossip namima but hits the jackpot on Backbiting (ghiblah) which it equates to eating the flesh of your dead brother - the logic here being that Backbiting harms its victims without offering them any chance of defense, just as dead people cannot defend against their flesh being eaten. I found this metaphor really quite striking if a tad brutal. Not more brutal though than St Paul in Romans 1, who as a former Pharisee seems to have scooped up all the Old Testament's fury about "Whisperers" into a few well-chosen words and stuck it within a list of the worst sins ever.
Gossip nowadays has overtones of old women in a village - but in fact it is completely endemic in the highest circles and is far more dangerous than we realize. Trump is more full frontal than behind your back - but he is an exception. Gossip has of course been turbocharged by the Internet, which does not help us quell this ancient instinct - which does carry some evolutionary advantage for Humans when used wisely to promote ties of Amity and Co-operation. However we have Arthur Miller's "The Crucible" as a warning about how this good effect can turn bad with striking ease. Miller was probably snooty about the BIble - but luckily it was in his DNA.
Top-level academics are not immune - some climatologists are prone to ad hominems about Trump and Putin simply because they do not care about Global Warming - though in fact even these scientists are continuing to live as "normal" because it is hard to opt out of a whole Civilization built upon Fossil Energy (and, increasingly, Fossil Water or Groundwater). It may not be sinful to castigate Presidents or Kings for this and that personal defect, but it is an awful waste of time compared with challenging their Actions (after you have amended your own). Save The Parish seem to have "come in from the cold" - but the Church is far more benign than most institutions when it comes to "rocking the boat", since rocking the boat is supposed to be its Blueprint Modus Operandi and Modus Vivendi.
It is hard to avoid accusations of Hypocrisy if you stay in the boat you are rocking, of course - this is why people prefer to resign or retire first before spilling the beans. For instance, Climate Protesters are scuppered from the off by the fact that everything they eat, drink and wear (not to mention their phones, trains, buses, etc.) has been created with Fossil Energy. They are not protesting from outside the System - but it is hard to protest from outside a dominant System as Trump does against Free Trade with Tariffs. Free Trade has been the mammonite idol of the world since about 1850 (when Marx pointed out it would destroy Capitalism eventually). Is Trump a Marxist? He might as well be, for all the praise he has received for his insistence that Nations be Self-Sustaining. Is he a Greenie? Heaven forfend - yet "Abolish Free Trade" used to be the mantra of the Greens before they joined the System. Maybe he is just trying to be a practising Christian!
But that is what REAL investigative journalists do. You could call it Sleuthing, finding all sorts of facts, sifting out unrelated ones, and putting a result together which is not an opinion but more like a finding of fact in a Court of Law. It takes a lot of precious time - ask any Judge., or indeed any Solicitor or Barrister.
The presumption of innocence is a moveable feast, it seems.
Like you, I have no time for the Tate brothers, but they are, at this moment in time, innocent, as is the subject held for Ann Widdicombe's death, as unpalatable as that may be for some.
I'll also make two further legal comparisons. The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (ROA) received Royal Assent on 31 July 1974 and came into force on 1 July 1975.
George Cotterall has been vilified by the left and the media for being a criminal associate of Nigel Farage. He was convicted in America for wire fraud in 2017 and sentenced to 8 months, released immediately for time already served.
Under the terms of the ROA his conviction is entirely likely to be considered spent. He has conducted his life since, impeccably. Yes, convictions in the US do count.
The same can be said of Louise Haigh who was convicted in England in 2013. Although, whilst I'm happy to see a reformed character become an MP, I'm not convinced she should be elevated to one of the highest offices of state in the country, but only because her 'dog whistle' comment publically confirms her bad judgement. But ultimately, that's Burnham's decision, and he will face the consequences.
A few years ago I lost a primary school friend in a tragic motorcycle crash. He was one of my very best mates as we grew into adulthood, but I only met him once for lunch in 30 years. His death hit me hard. I can't imagine how distressing Ann's death must have been for you, Nigel and everyone else at Reform who knew her well.

And all to save the status quo which is that minorities must be protected, shielded and kept safe from any negativity.

It's as if the governing class must not only erect legalities to protect the minorities (read Muslims as all the other minorities dont demand special treatment - anti hate speech, anti blasphemy laws etc) but the system must now generate counterblows to even up the score on their behalf.
I had been following the event in Barham for some time. It is a rural village of 1,500 people. To enter the venue all of those 10,000 visitors would have had to go through the village. From what I could gather, there was a lot of concern from local people about the SIZE of the event, rather than who the visitors were or what they were doing.

I find myself horrified that we have now in British people, officials, civilservants, police, politicians, journalists, activists of every kind, a rush to end honesty, truth, law, free speech, equal before the law, clarity, honour, integrity.
