I've been feeling the same. Everything i read recently, just illicits more and more anger. Not just about the UK, but it is happening all over the western world....
Our home office was staffed by English folks until 2015 they got rid of most of the staff and recruited from blacks and browns. I know this because I used to speak to the home office every day for my job!
I became so angry reading this article, I almost stopped reading it. But of course, I didn't, and thank you for it, Gawain. How have we got to this? Every single day it just gets worse. I'll stop now, before it becomes a rant...
The only thing so called foreign barbers cut are innocent throats..while peaceful hardworking people who help our farming communities to keep beautiful beasts from being eaten alive are treated like the animals they shear.. saddens my heart Gawain 💙
This government constantly wages war on farming. It has no appreciation of how hard they work, how much shearers graft, claim nothing. I have a relative who shears here and in New Zealand. He roughs it, sleeps in whatever accommodation he can and would never dream of trying to claim benefits.
I recently enjoyed a cruise in a small boat, say thirty five people, all Australian.
Great people - we use the same company every year.
The story that held us this time was of a British emigrant who had become Australian ten years ago.
Very happy with his choice.
Family funeral back in Blighty last year.
To return for the funeral he discovered it cost him several thousand pounds for a visa because he fell into a particular category, or three hundred quid to temporarily renounce Australian citizenship, acquire a British passport, and then become Australian again (small admin charge on his return).
Our state has become ludicrous and long since not fit for any purpose other than the wreckage of our country.
Maybe not but if copied to the politicians and media who do, it might highlight the ridicularse discrepancies and - never know - lead to some change. Personally, I will be emailing my MP on this, and hope others do too.
Great details Gawain, it's made me very angry at the stupidity of our politicians and civil servants but I'm still glad know about this problem, thanks for effort of bringing these outrages to our attention.
The so called civil servants have never done a practical thing in their life. They are automatons not thinking, sentient beings that have targets to meet.
Fascinating insight into the world of sheep shearing, but depressing regarding the ever present nonsense that is our bureaucracy and how badly it’s applied in different sectors - frightening for now and the future. In our market town which had two traditional “homegrown” barbers, somehow we now support about seven or more - the maths doesn’t add up so there’s something dodgy going on.
Because they are white people. They want to fill the country with brown people. If the thousands arriving on dingies were blond women from scandiniavia the Left would have stopped it in weeks.
I used to believe it unwise to ascribe malevolence when incompetence suffices as an explanation for most situations. But when we step back and look at the big picture, I no longer think incompetence explains what we see.
Fascinating read Gawain. You can trust this government for ramming the shears into Farmers and their harsh, beautiful and noble way of life. They HAVE to Go.
All these issues need to be looked at from the point of view of, the government knows whats going on and wants it to happen. Then it all makes sense. As in the case of the shop fronts washing illegal money you mentioned, of course they know whats going on, of course they say and pretend they want to stop it. But do they? Of course they don't. The washed money goes into the banking system and therefore its available to be taxed. All the government really cares about is the GDP line going up. Then they want all the immigrants in Britain as future Labour voters. They won't admit that, but its clearly the case, the data backs it up. Every Left wing government across the West is importing future voters, and in 20 years you'll never see a ring wing goverment again, and the whole West will look like Baghdad.
Strangely enough Baghdad and the rest of Iraq were very wealthy and advanced during the 1970s and 1980s, featuring a strong middle class, high-quality free education, and modern infrastructure driven by oil revenues. And then Presidents Bush hot busy. Its the West that made Baghdad look the way it does now. You couldn't make it up.
The second Iraq war was stupid, but to suggest that everything that happened in that region was down to Bush is a rather blinkered view of the history of the region.
Afghanistan and Iran were equally open, the reason they are the hellholes they are now is down to Islam.
Just not true. Iraq holds 9% of global reserves. Kuwait have about 7%. So there's no reason to believe Iraqi prosperity would've disappeared. Whatever you say about Saddam Hussein he certainly was not an islamist, and its ridiculous to assert that Islam has made Iraq a hellhole. No serious historian doubts it was the gulf wars that destabilised Iraq. None
As I said the second Iraq war was a huge error, but Iraq did not have to descend into factions and chaos as it did. That was a choice made by the various leaders of the various factions within Iraq. It is extremely patronising to say otherwise and thereby suggest that these people have no agency and have ended up the way they have through the actions of the West.
Its not patronising its the consensus opinion of all serious historians. If other oil states (all muslim majority) in the region have remained prosperous its almost certain Iraw would with the gulf wars
"Serious historians" Either "those I agree with" or "the one I read".
Other oil states have a highly developed system of dissent control. When Hussein was removed that barbaric dissent control was removed (cf Assad in Syria).
The choice to fall into factionalism was that, a choice. Driven by tribal and religious (Sunni Vs Shia) hatred they chose to destroy the economy which, by your own admission, would have continued to be wealthy, had they made different choices.
That choice is nobody else's fault but their own.
The Gulf War was stupid, the outcome is in the end the choice of those in power in Iraq.
I think I’m going to have to stop reading these, because I am becoming so angry at how insane Britain has become.
Come for the history and poetry
I've been feeling the same. Everything i read recently, just illicits more and more anger. Not just about the UK, but it is happening all over the western world....
And the Anglosphere - Oz and NZ as well..
I concur. Gawain’s articles are fascinating, but often utterly depressing🤦♀️.
There are moments I try and raise the mood
Beautifully written though. It’s hard to write upbeat in today’s politics and state of the nation. Nothing personal meant.
But his prose is excellent. Makes a change. A Delight to read, regardless.

Good, we need more angry men.
@Bullquay you should be furious. Now put that aside ansld ask yourself what you can do to get your country back.
Then do it, amd keep doing it.
Is it time for the seventy five to describe their craft as halal shearing. That would be wholly acceptable.
I doubt this is the accident Gawain suggests or just an easy win. Seventy five is half what a single rubber boat brings over so it is irrelevant.
The left hates Britain, farmers, New Zealanders (unless they vote correctly). How can we get this message out there.
There is a huge difference between the 75 snd the barbers. The former go home but the latter won’t, ever.
Can’t be halal, they are so skilled they don’t cut the sheep
Hmmmm. I like Britain and the world as it actually is. In the end I have no choice.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention - this is red tape gone mad! Whoever approved this should be sacked.
Sacked ?
Hardly.
Promotions& Bonuses for the Defra apparatchiks will be the order of the day.
Our home office was staffed by English folks until 2015 they got rid of most of the staff and recruited from blacks and browns. I know this because I used to speak to the home office every day for my job!
I have had letters from the Inland Revenue from a person with a foreign name and I can't understand what they have told me.

Thankyou for this Gawain, depressing though it is, it exposes the rot and sheer asinine stupidity at the heart of government. Could it be overturned?

yep - ridicul*rse and ludicr*ps .... has anyone pointed out this particular issue to the home office yet?
I doubt they would be much bothered about it.
Maybe not but if copied to the politicians and media who do, it might highlight the ridicularse discrepancies and - never know - lead to some change. Personally, I will be emailing my MP on this, and hope others do too.

My wife's a Kiwi. Came here aged four but can still go full Kiwi.
Cousin of hers went in to insurance. Sheep farms his main custom.
Early days, one farmer said - Why should I get you to insure me when you haven't a clue how to even shear a sheep.
Cousin, brought up on a farm, said "Hand me the shears".
No problems selling insurance to sheep farms after that.
This is utter nonsense. We are ruled by complete retards. To quote my beloved Irish Granny
"It will end in tears". And no amount of civil strife
Why? War on farmers? Blackrock waiting to buy up our country?
Because they are white people. They want to fill the country with brown people. If the thousands arriving on dingies were blond women from scandiniavia the Left would have stopped it in weeks.
Bit strong from you Luke. I presume you are the Luke moving from Horsforth to somewhere further North. Regards. Ivan.
Nothing in this through the looking glass country we live in now surprises me, what kind of educational institutions produce this kind of thinking.

I don’t think most of the money goes into the banking /tax system- I think it is largely a shadow -economy that runs alongside the visible one.

A lot happened between 1980 and 2003 in Iraq.

I don't think you can hold the West to blame for that.
That must be a great comfort to you Sandra
Sadly I think that can be the only true explanation.
