Beautiful, lyrical and truly inspiring. You have an unparalleled gift with words and you delineate our shared history and accomplishments in such a short space. I am truly grateful for this post, it gave me a real rush. I wish our mainstream media were capable of showing such heartfelt passion and honesty. 🙏

That is so very kind, bit of a leap to put up poetry, but may as well give it a shot.

Gawain, this is just perfect…

I felt every blade of grass, every bit of soil, the rain, the mud, the fog, the fighting, the sun in the morning, the battlefields, the centuries of amazing people like Shakespeare, the countless custodians of this green and pleasant land, the different accents across the country, our infighting over who indeed is part of “gods own county” … I felt my bones of which they are centuries of this land, the venerable Bede in Jarrow where I was born and the Port of Tyne dock yards…

You painted the most marvellous picture of our country through the ages, it is poignant and inspiring, it is frightening and sad, if we don’t elect the right people at the next election, in what’s left of our once great democratic system, the age, history and beauty of this wonderfully ancient country of which you write will be lost.

Here’s to us 🙏

Reading this has helped...I wasn't even aware I needed help, but I'm ready for another day, and the next, as an Englishman carrying and living that inheritance, so beautifully described
